Music That Draws You in Before ‘PRESS START’

Music is a vital part of the video game experience.

Music is one of the vital organs of video gaming. I often feel that because it isn’t something that we see in the forefront of a game, it is often forgotten or undermined the same way we as human beings forget how important our hearts, kidneys, and livers are to our existence. When I think back to the video games I have found the most memorable, music was a crucial part of the experience. The genre does not matter. Think about how different Street Fighter II would have been without the music on each stage. What would Final Fantasy VII have been like if it had no music? Imagine playing levels in any Super Mario Bros. game without any music. We could all agree that it wouldn’t be the same.

For this post, I wanted to share 10 of my favorite opening themes for video games using videos from YouTube. Let’s get to it:

NO. 1 – CHRONO TRIGGER

NO. 2 – DRAGON QUEST XI

NO. 3 – THE LEGEND OF ZELDA

NO. 4 – CROSSCODE

NO. 5 – TOKYO XANADU EX+

NO.6 – HALO: THE MASTER CHIEF COLLECTION

NO. 7 – SUPER MARIO WORLD

NO. 8 – NI NO KUNI: WRATH OF THE WHITE WITCH

NO. 9 ACTRAISER: RENAISSANCE

NO. 10 – DONKEY KONG COUNTRY

I hope you enjoyed checking out some of the music on this post. These 10 tracks don’t even begin to scratch the surface when it comes to the impact music has had on me as a gamer. There are many more title themes that could be posted as well. But thanks to every composer, every musician, and every contributor who helps make video game music what it is. It’s my favorite type of music and there is nothing else like it.
