I will be the first to admit that Final Fantasy IX isn’t one of my favorites in the series. When it first came out, I was disappointed in the game’s return to a more fantasy-based look rather than the more realistic-looking visuals in Final Fantasy VIII. But there is no doubt that many Final Fantasy fans loved Final Fantasy IX. But when I saw the Moguri Mod for the PC version of Final Fantasy IX, I suddenly had an interest in the game that I hadn’t possessed before. Having played a bit of the game on the original PlayStation, I was floored when I saw the graphical upgrades to the PC version of the game that make it look as if the game came more from the PlayStation 2 generation. What an outstanding job the team did to revamp this RPG classic.

Independent game developers and publishers have been responsible for some of the most innovative gaming experiences I’ve had in the past few years. The care and passion put some of these indie developers and publishers put into their games not only rivals the bigger-budgeted AAA titles, but many times leads to better games. If you’re tired of being disappointed by the bigger gaming companies then it may be time for you to dive into indie gaming.
