WHAT I’VE BEEN PLAYING: Sakura Wars

Sakura Wars has been getting plenty of play time on my Playstation 4 as of late.

I really dig games that are unique and different from the usual gaming formulas. There is always a risk in straying from the norm to create something uncommon. It can turn out to be a complete bust. But just as much potential exists for it to be something that can be truly memorable. Sakura Wars for the Playstation 4 takes many elements that have been done in gaming time and time again but molds them into a title that stands on its own. Continue Reading

The Division 2 is one of the finest games that Ubisoft has published in recent years. Developed by Massive Entertainment, the online third-person shooter takes place in a Washington D.C. that has been devastated by a genetically engineered virus. I thought the game was only multiplayer friendly which is why I did not consider it when it was released in March 2019. But upon further research, I found that there is quite a bit of content for solo players and purchased the game last winter. I’m glad I did because it is a game I enjoy. The video above gives you a gameplay sample to check out. Don’t forget to visit The Video Gamer’s Advocate YouTube page and subscribe.

MY FIRST TIME: Tecmo Bowl

Tecmo Bowl on the NES was the first true king of pro football on home consoles.

When I first started playing the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) as a child, it seemed as if the best sports games were based on baseball. Sure there was Double Dribble for basketball and Ice Hockey was not a bad game for its time. But I can easily list off several baseball NES titles off the top of my head such as Baseball, Bases Loaded 1-3, Baseball Stars, Little League Baseball: Championship Series, Baseball Simulator 1,000, RBI Baseball 1-3, and Major League Baseball. For football, there was 10-Yard Fight, NFL Football, and John Elway’s Quarterback Challenge. But football games didn’t become interesting to me until the release of the original Tecmo Bowl in 1989. This was the first football video game I ever loved. Continue Reading

My history with the Fire Pro Wrestling series goes all the way back to 1996. I’ve never stopped being a fan of how it depicts and simulates the wacky world of professional wrestling. When Fire Pro Wrestling World was released on PC a few years ago, it was a dream come true as I always felt the PC platform would do wonders for the game. The video above is a tag team match from Fire Pro Wrestling World featuring Hulk Hogan and Macho Man Randy Savage against The Giant and The Yeti from mid-1990s WCW. Special thanks to Senator Phillips for his Hogan and Giant creations, as well as TheAvenger3 for creating Savage, Yeti, and the Halloween Havoc logo. Ultra Buggy Releases in 2020 Are Inexcusable

Cyberpunk 2077 has recently been in the news for all the wrong reasons.

Another major gaming release has been devastated by bugs. Cyberpunk 2077 is the latest victim as arguably the most anticipated launch of 2020 has been marred by an assortment of bugs and technical issues. In some cases, it is being reported that the problems on the Playstation 4 and Xbox One consoles have made the game basically unplayable. Marvel’s Avengers also had its share of issues when it was released in September. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion also possessed many bugs. Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War certainly had its fair share. In 2020 and as far as we have advanced in the gaming industry, how in the world are games able to be released that aren’t in a proper playable state? Continue Reading
