That Moment When You Think You’ll Have to Reinstall Your Mods

The idea of reinstalling mods totaling hundreds of gigabytes would feel about as good as the Clone Trooper felt in the picture above.

This past Sunday, I had the urge to play some classic Star Wars Battlefront II like I normally do every few days. I’ve been recently playing with the Absolute Battlefront: Galactic Conquest mod and decided to try out some of the maps in Instant Action mode. After playing a few maps, I got on with the business of the day and came back to play some more later on. I tried starting up one of the default maps with the Galactic Civil War sides but the maps would not load. After several attempts, I decided to try out the maps with the Clone War sides. Again, nothing. No maps were loading at all, whether default or custom. And then suddenly, a terrible thought came across my mind. Would I have to reinstall the game? And if so, would I need to reinstall all of my mods? Continue Reading

IN THE NEWS: China Limits Online Gaming for Minors

Hope everybody is having a great weekend so far. I want to give a shout out to one of my buddies for giving me a heads up on this story coming out of China earlier this week about a crackdown from the government on the amount of time that minors within the country play online video games. According to Fox Business, the new online restrictions for minors under 18 years of age (which only allow for just three hours a week) were the result of authorities looking to combat video game addiction and its negative consequences among its youth. In the case of this mandate, video game addiction has been viewed as being a primary distraction when it comes to responsibilities involving school and family. Continue Reading

I’m Back and Ready to Go

It’s good to be back. But it was also good to spend the last month relaxing and not having to ponder what the next post would be or what needed to be uploaded. I’m so thankful to be in the place where I have the power to decide when I want to work and how I want to work. From grade school to college to the workplace, many (if not most) of us have been trained to constantly operate according to someone else’s timetable. As a result, many of our achievements are based more on what someone expects or requires of us rather than something more internally based. I’ve lived that life and I can empathize with its struggles. That is why I appreciate each day that I decide what I wish to accomplish for myself. For August, my goal was to take some time away from producing content and return rejuvenated and with a fresher mind. Continue Reading

Wow! It’s Been a Year Already

So here we are. It’s now officially been a full year since I started this website/blog. This past Sunday marked the one-year anniversary of my first post. I’ve had a lot of fun posting regularly about gaming, trying out some different ideas along the way, and even launching a YouTube channel to boot. This has been the most writing and video-making I’ve done in years. One thing that building and maintaining this site has done has reignited my love for writing and creating content in general. I went through a period as a journalist where writing was no longer enjoyable and after I left that career, it took almost a decade for me to start wanting to do it again. Through The Video Gamer’s Advocate, I’ve found joy in writing again and I hope that has been communicated through all of my posts. Continue Reading

You Had Me at the Trailer

Sometimes there are game trailers that are so good and so well done that you know that it is a guaranteed purchase after watching it. In this post, I wanted to share some of the games that I’ve purchased in recent years just off of the trailers alone. It is very rare that a trailer by itself can generate that much of a desire to purchase a game with expedience but it has happened to me. The first game I will discuss is Super Mario Odyssey for the Nintendo Switch. Continue Reading
