Some Encouraging News and What I’ve Been Playing

Hello everyone. I’m doing significantly better than I was the last time I posted months ago. My oncologist revealed that my most recent PET scan results taken last Saturday show that all of my markers have decreased (showing less cancer) since my last scan in February. My plan to overcome and put my cancer into remission is still in full effect. Thanks to all of you who have prayed or sent good thoughts my way over the past several months.

I truly believe that one of the biggest reasons I’m doing so well is my diet. Since late last year, I changed to a plant-based diet with occasional [organic, antibiotic-free, grass-fed] beef and wild-caught seafood mixed in. No table sugars or processed foods. I start off each morning with an organic fruit smoothie with organic rolled oats and go very heavy on vegetables throughout the day. Lots of cabbage, onions, carrots, and bell peppers. Quinoa is my main go-to if I’m looking for something rice-like. If I eat bread, it is sourdough that a nearby bread shop makes that only has five ingredients. “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”

Other than that, I’m doing well. My focus is on my health. Since I last posted, my hands and wrists have greatly improved. So I’ve been gaming. And I finally completed two Nintendo Switch RPGs: Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Astral Chain. I had been working on those games off and on since 2019 and I finally finished them in 2023. I saw ending credits! If you’ve read some of my previous posts, you know this is a rarity for me and worthy of celebration.

I’m just 13 hours in but Baldur’s Gate 3 already has my vote as the 2023 Game of the Year.

RIght now, I’d have to say that Baldur’s Gate 3 has to be leading the way for my Game of the Year so far. I’m not familiar with the Baldur’s Gate series in general. Furthermore, I’ve only dabbled lightly in Larian Studio’s other titles, Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2. But when it comes to Baldur’s Gate 3, WOW! It’s like a Dragon Age game on steroids with so much to do and explore. “Initially overwhelming” is a phrase that some gamers may be using as they first start playing. Baldur’s Gate 3 has raised the bar of what can and should be done for a roleplaying game that costs $60 or more. I decided to purchase Baldur’s Gate 3 when it was still in Early Access back in the spring. My gaming instincts told me this game would be special. Shockingly, I had and have no interest in Final Fantasy XVI or Diablo IV. My focus was on Baldur’s Gate 3 as its release approached.

After nearly 13 hours of Baldur’s Gate 3, I can’t imagine there being a better game in 2023. This is even with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom currently on my backlog. I know that Tears of the Kingdom will be terrific once I get to it but Baldur’s Gate 3 is a masterpiece and a master class in what is possible when any gaming company takes its time, pours dedication and honor into its product, and releases a love letter of a game to its consumers. What makes it all better is that Larian Studios is an indie developer. I’m thrilled with Baldur’s Gate 3’s success and what it means for indie gaming. We are now in a time where even the production value of an indie title can surpass a AAA one. The production value of Baldur’s Gate 3 is some of the best you’ll see anywhere in gaming.

I’m glad to still be here. At this point, I can’t say when I will post next but thanks to all of you who have visited the site. Have a wonderful rest of your week. Thanks for reading and happy gaming.

  1. Great to hear from you! So glad your results were good and the markers have decreased. You’ve done amazingly with all the changes to your diet ect and the improvements it’s brought you. Nice to hear you’ve been gaming again as well, completing those Nintendo games eschpeially. Know you’ve been playing those for a while. I have been playing Diablo 4 and now the new port of Red Dead Redemption, enjoying those. Looking forward to Armord Core 6 soon.. I’ve heard great things about Balder’s Gate 3 though, sounds brilliant! Might check that out as well when its out on PS5 next month.

    • Hey Paul. Thanks for your comment. Yeah, food is so key when it comes to health. I wish I had known that sooner.

How is Diablo IV? I still haven’t passed either the second or the third ones so I have no business trying to play the current one. Sounds like you’ve had some good games keeping you busy. If you like the Dragon Age games, then I think you’ll definitely enjoy Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s a massive game to easily get lost in.

Great to hear from you as well.

      • Lovely to hear from you. Been wondering how you were doing. Yeah, I’ve been enjoying Diablo 4 a lot. It’s the first Diablo game I’ve ever played so been fun to dive in and see how it works. It’s very much a top-down RPG, but more arcade like in tone and gameplay. The main storyline is very good and there are lots of classes, builds and abilities you can customise ect. It certainly doesn’t have the depth of storytelling that seems to be in Balder’s Gate 3, but I might give that game a try as well. Heard rave reviews on it. Take care, and so happy to hear you are doing well. 🙂
